Linguistic Diversity

Linguistic Diversity

Among all the creative journeys we’ve embarked on at Giovanni Morra, "Linguistic Diversity" is the one closest to my heart. This wasn’t just a typical commercial campaign; it was a passion project born from our love for Georgia’s incredibly rich linguistic landscape. Georgia is a small country, yet it is home to distinct languages like Svan, Megrelian, and Laz,tongues as ancient and soulful as the mountains they echo from. We eventually realized that while we celebrate Georgian art and history, the very languages spoken by our people are quietly fading away.

Language is far more than a collection of words; it is a repository of a people’s memory, humor, and unique worldview. We felt that if Giovanni Morra truly cares about Georgian culture, we couldn’t ignore this "quiet crisis." So, in 2020, we took an unprecedented step: we translated our entire website into Svan, Megrelian, and Laz. It was a challenging but deeply emotional process, which we mirrored in our visual identity. We drew from Svaneti’s iconic tower silhouettes, Samegrelo’s vine motifs, and the rhythmic waves of the Laz coast, creating a "linguistic puzzle" in our logo where all four languages unite.

Culture only truly lives when it finds a place in our modern daily lives. By integrating these languages into contemporary design, we wanted to show that they are not relics of the past, but living treasures. Our dream is a future where seeing a Svan word on a T-shirt or hearing a Megrelian proverb in a pop song is completely natural. As Giovanni Morra would say: “We are all storytellers. Tell your story and listen to others, it is in these stories that our heritage survives.” Let’s together ensure that our linguistic diversity remains our wealth for generations to come.
